Because the process of getting a dental implant is likely a new experience, we want to do our best to answer any questions you may have. We’re glad to provide you with the answers to some of the more frequently asked questions regarding dental implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are inserted into the jawbone to replace the roots of missing teeth. We have created a detailed resource to explain how dental implants can be used.

How Many Teeth Can Be Replaced with Dental Implants?

Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or even all your teeth. Dental implants can also be used to provide support for removable dentures. You won’t even need a dental implant for each tooth; as few as two implants can support a removable lower denture while as few as four implants are needed to provide a full and permanent set of upper or lower teeth.

Can I Really Get Teeth In One Day?

We get many questions about the flood of adds we all see for "teeth in a day".  The process is All-on-4® New Teeth in One Day (also known as a hybrid fixed denture).  The All-on-4® treatment is typically recommended for patients who are have no teeth and/or need to replace the majority of their natural teeth. They are also good for patients with low bone volume, who cannot have a bone graft due to health conditions such as diabetes or osteoporosis.  The adds are a little mis-leading, but the process has proven to be revolutionary for patients who are missing all their teeth.  All-on-4® New Teeth in One Day allows patients without teeth to be fully restored with a fixed solution.  We at Markiewicz Dental collaborate with Dr. Scott Frank at Northshore Smile Surgery to plan and deliver the All-on-4® Teeth in One Day.

Learn about the your options by scheduling a consultation with one of our Doctors at Markiewicz Dental of Mundelein.

Is Dental Surgery Painful?

Dental Implants are usually placed using local anesthesia to prevent you from feeling pain. As with any surgery, you will have some discomfort after the surgery. We recommend taking over-the-counter pain relievers for a few days.

Can My Body Reject Dental Implants?

Implants can’t be rejected because they don’t contain any living cells or genetically coded material. The titanium they’re made of is biocompatible and allergies to this are very rare. However, an implant can fail to integrate with the jawbone if an infection develops in the absence of good oral hygiene. Dental implants will ultimately see success rates of over 95 percent.

How Do I Take Care of My Dental Implants?

You take care of them in the exact same way as you do your regular teeth – with proper brushing and flossing. While dental implants will never decay, the gums around them can still become inflamed or infected, making it important that you keep up with good oral hygiene habits. With proper care, dental implants will last a lifetime.

Are Dental Implants Expensive?

Dental Implants can often be very cost-effective. Dental implants can last longer than dentures or bridgework. Dental implants offer excellent value when considering your comfort and health. At Markiewicz Dental of Mundelein, our goal is to Make Treatment Affordable. Our business team will work to provide options to help make dental implants an affordable treatment option for you.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Most people are candidates for dental implants, but in order to be sure, it’s a good idea to schedule a consultation and an oral examination to determine which Restorative Dental option is best for you.
