July 7, 2020

July is an important month for me:

• July 9, 2016 is the day I became a Grandfather to Parker

Grandparenting in the age of COVID. The boys (FYI: I am wearing and N-95 mask and remained outdoors. Parker and Lucas had masks on for a while).

• July 11, 1985 was the day I reported for duty to the US Navy
• July 18, 1988 was the day Markiewicz Dental opened
• July 2001 we moved from our original office on Midlothian Road to our current location
• July 23, 2005 was the day I was awarded my Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry

July of 2020 is unique because of the COVID pandemic. It has affected all our personal and professional lives. The spectrum of hardship caused by COVID runs from devasting to inconvenient. We hope you and your loved ones are doing well. Please know that our team is committed to do our part to help our community move through this crisis.

Your dental health is our passion. Early in the pandemic we committed to finding a path to providing safe dental care in the era of COVID-19. Our plan was aggressive and required remodeling and significant equipment purchases, neither easily accomplished during a pandemic.

I will do a weekly post to discuss our protocols.

Negative Pressure:

Negative pressure rooms are usually found only in hospitals and are very effective to help prevent the spread of infectious aerosols. Negative Pressure is the best way to ensure infectious agents like viruses, are never recirculated in our office. When combined with Medical grade air filtration and high-powered suction systems, we have engineered an environmental system to protect us all.

Airflow is always into a negative pressure room. We installed a large roof top exhaust fan controlled by damper switches. The system creates “negative pressure” by drawing air into the room from the hallway and exhausting it outside. Air from our treatment rooms is never returned into the office, it is always exhausted outside. We combine that airflow with conditioned fresh air from outdoors to protect everyone in our office, not only from COVID, but also from every type of respiratory virus.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact us with questions.

We strive to provide the best care possible. Our team is passionate about learning and continuously improving. The pace of change can be both exciting and overwhelming. Trust that we at Markiewicz Dental will always be improving.

Feel free to leave a comment or question for our doctors and staff – we hope this will be a valuable resource for our patients, their families, and friends!
